Did you know that more than three million people across the UK are malnourished or at risk of becoming malnourished? An estimated one million of these people is over the age of 65. It’s a silent, and often hidden problem which in most cases can be preventable.
To raise awareness of this problem, the UK Malnutrition Awareness Week was founded in 2018 by the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN) and the Malnutrition Task Force. This year, the campaign will be more important than ever, as more (older) people will be at risk of becoming malnourished due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The UK Malnutrition Awareness Week 2020 provides tips and ideas on how to identify malnutrition, how to help prevent it, and what to do if people that you are worried about experience unplanned weight loss. On the website of the Malnutrition Task Force, you will find several free resources, such as self-screening tools, as well as more information on how to get involved.
